[Abstract] Objective To investigate bone mineral density and serum osteocalcin changes during orthodontic tooth movement in pregnant and lactation rats. Methods Seventy-five female rats were randomly divided into five groups of fifteen each:pregnant group, lactation group, orthodontic non-pregnant group, orthodontic pregnant group and orthodontic lactation group. To build the pregnant and lactation rats model, and exert medial force on the right side of the maxillary first molar .Each group was divided in 7 days,14 days and 21 days, while the same period of tibial bone mineral density(BMD) and serum osteocalcin (BGP)were detected. Results The BMD of orthodontic pregnant group and orthodontic lactation group was both lower than orthodontic non-pregnant group in 7 days,14 days and 21 days(P<0.05).The BGP of orthodontic pregnant group and orthodontic lactation group was both higher than orthodontic non-pregnant group in 7 days,14 days and 21 days(P<0.05).All the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion The BMD decreased and BGP increased in pregnant and lactation rats during orthodontic tooth movement as compared with non-pregnant rats. |
