Abstract: |
Objective To detect the expression and significance of PTTG1IP protein in different thyroid tumors originated from follicular epithelium. Methods Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expressions of PTTG1IP protein in 25 cases of normal thyroid, 23 cases of follicular adenoma, 65 cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma, 19 cases of follicular carcinoma and 18 cases of anaplastic carcinoma tissues. Results The positive rates of PTTG1IP protein were 28% in normal thyroid tissue, 30.43% in follicular adenoma tissue, 61.54% in papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue, 31.58% in follicular carcinoma tissue and 22.22% in anaplastic carcinoma tissue, respectively. The expression rate of PTTG1IP protein was significant higher in papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue than that in normal thyroid, follicular adenoma, follicular carcinoma and anaplastic carcinoma tissues (P<0.05). The expression rate of PTTG1IP protein was significant associated with patient age, extrathyroid invasion and TNM stage in papillary thyroid carcinoma (P<0.05). Conclusions In different thyroid tumors originated from follicular epithelia, the PTTG1IP protein over-expression may play a role in tumorgenesis and progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma particularly, whereas, it is not related with tumorgenesis of follicular carcinoma and anaplastic carcinoma. PTTG1IP protein may serve as a useful marker for discriminating papillary thyroid carcinoma from benign thyroid lesions and other malignant thyroid carcinoma. PTTG1IP may be a new therapeutic target for papillary thyroid carcinoma. |
