Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and LED red light combined with plaster casting on moderate and severe acne. Methods The clinical data of 68 patients with moderate and severe acne were collected. The patients were divided into ALA-PDT group and LED red light combined with plaster casting group depending on the different treatments, 34 cases in each group. Photographs were taken before treatment and at week 2, 4, 6, and 12 after treatment, the skin lesion counts, GAGS scores and adverse reactions were recorded. Results At the same time point after treatment, the effective rate and the efficacy indexes in ALA-PDT group were higher than those in LED red light combined with plaster casting group (P<0.05). The count of inflammatory skin lesions in ALA-PDT group was significantly decreased at week 4, week 6, and week 12 (P<0.05), the count of non-inflammatory skin lesions and GAGS score in ALA-PDT group decreased significantly at week 12 (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the count of non-inflammatory skin lesions or GAGS score between the two groups at week 2, week 4, and week 6 (P>0.05). Conclusions Both PDT and LED red light combined with plaster casting are effective on moderate and severe acne. PDT works faster and has better efficacy for inflammatory skin lesions.
