Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To investigate the status and proportion characteristics of adult body water content at different ages in Dalian area. Methods Totally 1105 (458 male and 647 female) Dalian resident adults with Han nationality were selected. The objects were divided into 5 groups with every ten years as an age group. Bioelectrical impedance method was adopted to test the items including Body Weight (kg), Total Body Water Weight (TBW, kg), Percentage of Body Water (PBW, %), Extracellular Water (ECW, kg), Intracellular Water (ICW, kg) and Extracellular fluid Rate (ECW/TBW%). SPSS19.0 statistical software was adopted for data statistics processing, the mean values comparison with u test. Results In Dalian area, the body weight (kg), total body water (kg), body water rate (%), intracellular water (kg), extracellular water (kg), and extracellular water rate (%) were 77.6±12.9, 39.6±5.3, 51.6±5.3, 23.8±3.9, 15.7±1.6, and 39.9±2.3 in male, respectively; and 60.5±9.1, 29.3±3.3, 48.8±3.3, 17.2±1.9, 12.1±1.6, and 41.3±2.1 in female, respectively. All the data showed significantly difference between male and female (P<0.01). With an exception of Extracellular fluid Rate, all the data in male were higher than female. Growth curves of the male body water content increased gradually from 20 years old, and declined stepwise after 30 years old; the curves of female rose from age of 20 and kept increasing tendency till close to the curve of male but no cross could be seen between the two curves. The Percentage of Body Water declined with the age in both gender. The decline trend of male was much more than female. The Extracellular fluid Rate increased and changing speed of female was faster than that of male. Conclusion The percentage of body water in Dalian adults decreased with age in both male and female, and the significant gender differences could be observed in body water content.
